  • It wasn't a Scooter, but it was still cool

It's been a bit of a quiet week, not much riding to be had....but today we went for a spin after work….but more on that later.
You may be wondering about the title of today's blog post.....well today Anthony got a chance to get up-close to a sexy piece of Italian two-wheeled engineering.  He would first like to mention that it wasn't quite as sexy as the 1098 that was parked across the road from it, but it was still a Ducati, and it did look cool.

The bike in question was a Ducati Hypermotard 1100 S, and when asked why the owner chose black instead of red, his response was...."everybody has a red Ducati....."

But it was a mean looking bike and had all the good gear (Pirelli's, Brembo brakes, carbon fibre exhaust.....)

Unfortunately Anthony didn't get to go for a ride on it, but he enjoyed the time spent drooling over it.....

As mentioned earlier, we went for a late afternoon ride after work, and I’m not sure if it was the cooler temperature, or possibly the brush with the sexy Italian, but the ride was so much fun.  We went for a quick (by quick I mean we rode as quick as legally possible, accelerating between traffic lights, roundabouts etc as quick as possible.) ride from Kingscliff, up the highway and then headed past the sights, sounds and late afternoon smells of Coolangatta and headed up to the Rusty Eagle.  We hung out there for a while, then headed back down through Cooly, and down through Tweed Heads, (making a quick beverage supply stop) and then headed home……

It was bucket loads of fun….and although Anthony wasn’t riding a Ducati, (or even a Derbi) he certainly smiled like he was!

This week’s segment of Monaco’s Celebrity Pillion Passenger of the Week features a Canadian.  She was born and raised in Vancouver, and although she acted at school, never thought she would achieve big time success.
She has described herself as a shy and boring person, but her career has certainly taken off since 2001 when she became the reason why males watch “Smallville”.   She has also been featured in Neutrogena skin care product commercials. She is part Dutch, part Chinese, but born in Indonesia.  She has a purple belt in Karate and she is….Kristen Kreuk.

  • I think that black cloud is following us.....

The decision to take me out on the road on Saturday morning was a last minute one.  Anthony had planned to take the car for a trip up to Scooter HQ, but a glimpse of sunshine amongst the grey clouds made him think that perhaps it would be ok…..So Scooter Boy & Scooter Girl grabbed their gear, opened the garage and off we went….

It was perhaps 5-10 minutes down the road when it was blatantly obvious that the sunshine was gone, and the large black cloud that was hugging the coastline was actually heading north with us.

Unfortunately, clouds don’t stop for traffic lights, and so by the time we got to Tugun, the rain began to fall, and after staying ahead of it for a while, it caught up to us at Miami….and it stayed right above us for our journey up the highway.

For me there was no problem, it was my second chance for a wash during this week and I was fine……but for my passengers, they were only dry from the waist up.   But despite the cold and wet conditions, they still arrived at Southport with smiles on their faces.  Scootering (whether wet or dry) is still heaps of fun.  So after getting some hot coffee, we headed to the shop.

And so I got my new headlight bulb (which was what I thought we were going to pick up)……but I think the purpose of the ride up was actually a chance to test ride my replacement…..the GP1-250 was there, and SB & SG wanted to have a go.

I wasn’t out on the ride with them, so I don’t know what it was like…..but the smiles on their faces when they returned was enough to make me think that they were impressed.   Sadly I wasn’t able to provide the same level of performance for the journey home……but I did get them home, and yes it rained once again and they arrived home wet and cold…..

……but the good thing was, they were still smiling.

The next winner of Monaco’s Celebrity Pillion Passenger of the week has been a singer from age 2, was a swimmer and actor in high school, and after leaving college (after only three semesters), she decided to try out for television shows in LA.

195 rejections later, she was eventually cast in a musical.

In 2006 she auditioned for American Idol and was eventually the runner up in Series Five.  Since then she has recorded her first solo album, and will have a second out by the end of 2008.

In 2007 she held the #2 spot on FHM Magazine’s 100 Sexiest Women in the World, she is Katherine McPhee.

  • A change in routine.....

Every now and then, Anthony likes to change his daily routine.....and today was no exception.   Today is Wednesday, which usually means we go for a ride after he finishes work, but today he opened the garage at lunch time, all suited up his lunch in his hand, and off we went.

It wasn't a long ride, we headed down the coast road to Casurina (as we often do), then back towards Salt where we stopped......he sat beside me and ate his lunch, then went for a walk around the park, then he came back and we headed back on the road to was enough riding for him to clear his head and be ready to go for the rest of the afternoon.

For me, it was a chance to get out of the garage!  And no matter where we go, getting out of the garage is a good thing.  (And the special bonus for today's ride was the newly laid stretch of bitumen that we got to ride was less than 24 hours old and felt really good.)

I'm not sure if we will go out again this afternoon.....but even if we don't, today's ride was enough to recharge Anthony for the rest of the day, and gave me my bitumen fix........

And now, the part of the blog post that was missing humblest apology to those who complained...... Today's winner of Monaco's Celebrity Pillion Passenger of the Week is once again from the USA.  She is the oldest of four children, and studied dance for 13 years, until knee surgery in high school ended her ballet why not try acting instead.    To many she may recently be remember for her role as "Fred" in seasons 2 - 5 of "Angel", and she then joined the cast of "Alias" for its final season.

She was born in 1976, in Dallas Texas......she is the lovely Amy Acker.

  • BIG scootering weekend

There's something so amazing about getting out on the road to go for a ride....and this past weekend was no exception.

It all started at 7:15am on Saturday morning when the garage door opened, and there was Scooter Boy with his gear, ready to go.   It was going to be a big day.  Anthony was doing the testing requirements to upgrade his licence (thus removing the current 125cc auto restriction).   So off we went to the assembly area at Tweed River High School, and so began a day of slowly turning circles, and we went around, and around, and around.........thankfully there was a road ride component, which involved some of the roads that we ride on each week, so it was an excuse to get out on some nice corners.....(the first time we got to turn Right I almost cried with joy!!!!)

And after the day of practise, the testing component began....Anthony was last so he watched the other 4 go before him, and then it was our turn.....and I accept full responsibility for him losing 1 the end of the brake test I stalled....I'd been running perfectly all day, but then stopped...oops!!  Anyway, he passed and is now able to ride bigger scooters, bikes...whatever!!   Well done Scooter Boy!!!

And then Sunday, there was more riding planned....and Scooter Girl had now arrived and so once food was packed, off we went with no particular destination in mind......but we headed north.  After a while even I was able to figure out that we were heading towards Southport, towards ScooterHQ, to have a peek at the Derbi in the window.......(picture the scene in "Wayne's World" when Wayne stops the car to check out the white Fender Stratocaster guitar in the music store window......"It will be mine, Oh yes, It will be mine!!")

So after drooling on the glass (sorry Brendon..) we rode down to the Broadwater Carpark, and SB & SG went and had a picnic while I sat and watched the world (and the people of the Gold Coast) go was good fun.  Then after a while they return, suited up and off we went once more, down the road, down along the esplanade through Surfers Paradise, then we stopped off outside the Q1 building to have a look up at it....(that thing is HUGE!!) then it was back down the Gold Coast highway, turn at Pacific Fair out to Burmuda Street, down to Burleigh, back out to the GC Highway.....but when we reached Currumbin we turned down towards the beach, but instead of heading around to Elephant Rock and then down to Tugan, we turned left....

.......towards Currumbin Valley, towards Tomewin, towards TWO WHEEL HEAVEN!!!  For those of you who have never had the pleasure of sampling this awesome piece of road that crosses the QLD-NSW border - get on your bike and go do it.....

And for those who have done it, Do It Again!!!   Also yesterday was also proof that it can be done two-up on a 125cc scooter!!!  Sure the first part was a bit tough....(that bit where the road goes straight up the side of the mountain at an incline of about 45 degrees....well we did that at 30kmh.....) but it was still awesome fun.    And there were so many bikes up there (Sports Bikes, Sports Tourers, Cruisers, even two (yes two!!) three-wheeled Can-Am Spyders....we saw probably around 30 bikes, with 30 or more riders and passengers with huge smiles on their faces!!)

And so after reaching the top, and then crossing the border, the corners continued down the other side of the hill to Murwillumbah, then it was a quick stop to get some fuel, then head down the highway to Tumbulgum, over the river and up Terranora Road, down through Banora Point, round the Golf course, then back up over the hill and home to Kingscliff.

It was a great day out......lots of sun, lots of corners, lots of laughs, lots of Kms (about 150)...and what was the cost for this day of two-wheeled fun?   $6.... it just doesn't get any better than that!!

Thanks again to Scooter Boy and Scooter Girl for making it such a great day out.....

see you on the black stuff.....

  • So what are you going to call your Derbi?

With the upcoming Derbi GP1-250 release date approaching, I was asking Anthony yesterday if he had picked out a name for his new toy, but at this stage he hasn't chosen a name for her......

So I asked if I could help out with the process......If I was a European sports scooter, what would I like to be called ??

Then I thought, why not ask my blog readers for suggestions........

The 2 criteria for selection would be:

    - The name would have to be a girls name,

    - The name would have to evoke style and sophistication (it doesn't necessarily have to be a European influenced name, or even one that suggests the scooters' Spanish origin, but those factors could be used)

So there you have it people.......if anyone has any suggestions, let me know.......

Hopefully the rain will go away today, I'm itching to get out for a ride.  This saturday Anthony & I will be spending the day at the outside assembly area of Tweed River High School as he does his licence upgrade it's good luck to Anthony for that one!

And so today's winner of Monaco's Celebrity Pillion Passenger of the Week....doesn't actually come from Spain.  She originates from Brazil, but her native language is Portuguese....and Portugal is south of according to Monaco logic, that's close enough!  In 2007, she earned $33 Million.  She was born in the Brazilian town of Tres de Maio, and her parents were a bank clerk and university teacher and writer.

During her early life she wanted to be a professional volleyball player, but took up modelling at the age of 13.  Since then she has graced the covers of almost 500 magazines throughout the world including Elle, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Vanity Fair, Time and Marie Claire....and is the international face of more than 20 brands.

In 2006, she signed another multi-million dollar deal with Apple and starred in their advertising campaign to promote the new Mac computers (starring Justin "Hello I'm a Mac" Long).

She has her own line of footwear created by Grendene and her custom thongs selling for up to $230 a pair (....that one is for you Vicki...) and in 2007 she decided to end her association with Victoria's Secret - because she wanted to move on, not because they didn't pay her enough!!

She was born in 1980, has green eyes and according to Wikipedia, she weighs 59kg!!  She is the richest supermodel in the world, with an estimated net worth of $150 Million....she is Giselle Bundchen.

  • The Adventures of Scooter Boy and Scooter Girl......

Hello everyone, yes I'm still here......

We had a great ride yesterday afternoon.... (and by "We"....I mean myself, Scooter Boy & Scooter Girl......and no, they aren't a new Superhero duo who wear their undies on the outside of their clothes and cruise around the Gold Coast on a scooter, saving people from the evils of society.......its just Anthony & Vicki.)

.........and so off we went, up the highway to Tweed Heads.....we cruised through Coolangatta, then headed up onto the hill at Kirra ( know, the one with the hideous rusted bird sculpture.......I'm thinking of one day opening a pub up there and calling it "The Rusty Eagle"....) anyway.....SB & SG enjoyed hanging out, watching the sun go down, talking, laughing, etc....while I sat there watching the world go by, watching the lights of the Gold Coast appearing and just basically having fun.

Soon SB & SG were getting hungry, so after spending some time up on the hill we then headed back down through Coolangatta, which is when their hunger increased as the smells of food at the various restaurants and cafe's hit them.......(watching their reaction when they had to stop at a roundabout near two Thai restaurants was priceless.....)   So after grabbing some food at south tweed we headed off home, once again completing a fun afternoon ride with my two favourite people.  Being a scooter and having the chance to get out and ride around with them is great, and I wouldn't swap it for anything in the world.....

For today's installment of Monaco's Celebrity Pillion Passenger of the Week, I thought that considering this post began with a comment about superheroes, I'd feature one.  But the decision on who to choose has been tough......after consulting the Oracle of Internet Information...(my good mate Wikipedia!!)......I came across a list of several hundred of who should I choose?  And then I realised that there is only one that could be chosen.......

She has been continuously appearing in DC comics since 1944, and first appeared in 1941, she is a founding member of the Justice League (that also included Superman, Batman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter)

She is a former Amazonian Princess who left the Amazons (after being awarded several gifts by the Olympian Gods...including the Lasso of Truth, and indestructable bracelets...)  As well as comics, she has been featured in various animated TV series, and also the 1975 to 1979 TV adaption starring Lynda Carter.

She is as "beautiful as Aprodite, wise as Athena, swifter than Hermes and stronger than Hercules..." she is the one and only Wonder Woman.

  • He's Changed his mind.....

It would seem that I no longer need to be worried about the dreaded HD200 that I’ve been talking about recently.   Anthony has had a change of heart and has decided to not replace me with the dependable and hard working Bolwell scooter….Woo Hoo for me……….

But that’s where the fairytale ends…….instead, he has his heart set on the ultimate urban transportation vehicle, with its race-bred heritage, exotic styling, Spanish engineering and stunning good looks…..yes, it looks like my place in the garage is to be taken by the Derbi GP1-250.

But am I bitter, am I angry…….perhaps a little upset, but despite my comments about this bike in a previous post, even I admit that it’s a winner, and am proud to be a part of Anthony’s scootering journey and wish him (and the GP1) all the best…..

On a happier note…we had a ride yesterday afternoon, which is always good…and after getting a tank-full of 98 octane Vortex, headed out to one of my favourite bits of road in recent weeks and went for a spin… was getting a bit cooler as the sun was going down, but it was still a fun ride, and I’m looking forward to more……

This week’s winner of Monaco’s Celebrity Pillion Passenger of The Week is English….not that there’s anything wrong with that, but after featuring so many American’s perhaps its time to feature someone from another continent.    She has had quite a versatile career, ranging from Actress, Television Presenter and Model.

She began with Modelling, and then in 2001 turned to acting in the first season of Smallville, playing Lex Luthor’s girlfriend.
In 2003 she starred (briefly) in “The Italian Job” and then moved on to her role with fiancé Billy Zane in “Survival Island”.  Her TV presenting jobs have included work for MTV, The Big Breakfast, and the Trouble TV network.

She was born Kelly Ann Parsons in November 1979, but to the rest of the world she is known as Kelly Brook.
