  • Kymco Agility R 16

Two 50 cc versions of the Agility R 16 join larger capacity models already on sale. Europe only.

    Allen Drysdale / Kymco Italy

    Kymco Agility 50 2T / 50 4T / 125 / 200

Two new versions of the Agility R 16 have been launched in Europe, both 50 cc, one 2 stroke and the other 4. These two new models join the already existing 125 and 200 versions of the same scooter currently on sale.

The Agility R 16 was first launched at Eicma last year. The Agility R 16 is different from the Agility we're familiar with here, this one has a 16 inch front wheel along with a 14 inch rear. The 125 and 200 versions feature disc brakes front and rear, ample storage under the seat, a seat which is just 780 mm high.

No doubting the Agility R16 would make an awesome option for our market and would tick all the boxes on the commuter front. Fingers crossed for this one, looks the goods and would help broaden Kymco Australia's current range.

Kymco Italy produced a cool teaser campaign for the launch of the new models entering the market you can see that below.

  • SR Max 300 Update

We recently reported on the SR Max's ability around town, it's now time to get a feel out on the open road.

    Allen Drysdale

    Aprilia SR Max 300 Update

The SR Max is something of a mini-maxi, the long wheelbase Aprilia actually starting life as the 500 cc Gilera Nexus. With the rationalisation between Piaggio brands, Aprilia used the SR to broaden its 300 range and funnily enough it's now the last 300 cc Aprilia left in our market.

The SR Max uses the same engine as seen in various Vespa models, it's tried and tested and arguably the best scooter engine on the market today and whilst you might think performance is pretty much the same, the SR Max has been tuned quite differently. The SR Max won't blast off the mark as quick as the brisk footed Aprilia Sportcity 300, it will however show superior performance at speeds over 100 km/h. The SR Max would be the most comfortable "300 class" scooter on the market at 110 km/h, and probably only Kymco's Downtown 300 would match it in a top speed shootout.

Aprilia is clearly capitalising on the SR Max's size. Here is a 300 capacity scooter that will happily cruise at freeway speeds, and do it in a way that might have you questioning if you do need anything bigger.  The SR Max is stable, weather protected and with a massive 15 litre fuel tank, touring capable. The screen will manually adjust to three levels. Take a look at the video below to further prove how competent the SR Max is on the motorway.

There's a shed-load of storage space under the seat. We've used the SR Max for filming duties, filling the underseat storage area with tripods, laptop bag loaded in the top box and a 50 litre camera bag strapped to the large broad passenger seat. There's plenty of options with Aprilia's SR Max.

It's hard to pick faults with the SR Max and although size will give it many advantages, the large chassis can also come at a cost. The SR Max might find itself too tall for some, and when coming to a stop, it can be tippy toe time for shorties - me included.

We've been able to sample the SR Max in a variety of conditions and as always the class shines through. The SR Max would be perfect for somebody who needs to travel daily on fast flowing motorways or commute from the cities outskirts. The SR is longer, broader and taller than most other "300 class" options on the market and this gives it a host of benefits that not many other scooters can actually match in the real world.

The SR Max 300 retails for $7290 plus on roads and currently comes as tested with a free box and rack on the rear. See more @

  • New GTS 150 3V

Vespa Australia confirms release of a lower capacity - larger bodied - Vespa GTS 150 3V.

    Allen Drysdale

    New GTS 150 3V

Things might seem a little slow when talking about new scooter models and Australia in the same sentence, though not for the Vespa brand, who will continue to roll out model after model in the back half of 2014.

New GTS 250, new GTS 300 Super and Super Sport and not forgetting the brand new Sprint. Now we see the announcement of another brand new model arriving in September. Introducing the GTS 150 3V, a model currently sold throughout Asia where lower capacities are a must.

The GTS 150 will come in the same body as the larger capacity versions. Pricing will obviously be sharper and the all benefits of the bigger body range will be welcomed. More room, greater storage and twin disc brakes.

This will be a new direction for the Vespa brand in Australia. We know the 3 Valve engine is a cracker and should be enough to provide adequate performance around town. The lower capacity will also reduce registration costs in most states.

Watch for further news as each new model arrives in Australia. Expect Sprint and GTS 150 during September whilst we expect to see the new GTS 300's and the GTS 250 closer to October.
