Who wears a hi-vis vest when riding & why?

I have done so for many a year now, to help increase my visibility to drivers, especially when at lights. I brought the one from the below link only the white is green, effective and looks good too IMO. Also a reasonable price.  I figure it's bets to have a bit of colour and increase your chance of surviving the ride.

I like the below one too but wouldn't be able to justify the $100AUD for it at the current conversion from the UK.

    Also these are available http://www.visionvests.com/products.htm

You could ofcourse just use your standard tradies fluro vest but for me I wanted something that looked part of the jacket and not to flap about in the breeze

Yes, I was thinking about this too lately.  I found one, tradies/council fluro on the side of the roads.  Why not?

I am not about style though.

Chick upstairs uses a strap like vest on her pushie.

I have one, but never wear it. I now have a Stebel Airhorn, and thats the equivelent of high visibility in audibility.

I do not bother in Summer as I do not do a lot of night riding but I have "obtained" a new jacket for winter.

Work helped out just like they did with the boots Wink

It is waterproof and I got a big one that goes over the DriRider no problem at all.  It is not stiff like some waterproof jackets are.

Here's a pic of her vest.  Stands out like dogs balls when lights hit it.

Yes, I wear one. I figure it might be the difference b/w someone seeing me or not. Doesn't look good but at least I'll be alive!

Re: Who wears a hi-vis vest when riding & why?

Bought cheap ones for my husband and I, but we only wore them a couple of times (maybe the first month). There just too many layers, by the time I place on the protective jacket, gloves, pants and helmet and then wet weather as needed!!!..  I commute daily by scooter and change due to work requirements.

It is a great idea, time over again would just get a brighter jacket... My wet weather jacket is really bright which is good.

    Cheers

I picked once up today from the local tradies store, and John from the Motorcycle shop I bought my Scoot from today said he was pleased  that I was being safe while riding.

I think the only reason I would wear it is that most of my gear is black, and even though the Scoot is Red you can't be too careful on Country roads.

Re: Who wears a hi-vis vest when riding & why?

Im definately into Hi Vis. An $8 fluro vest is a must have for night and wet weather riding. They fold up to the size of a singlet and are light. Some vests have got brighter reflective tape on them than others. The ones with the black edging are the most reflective. You can also get this fab reflective tape from boating stores like Whitmores?? Plus Ive got a yellow scooter, best colour for visibility, a fluro pink helmet plus two yellow helmets plus a yellow jacket and still they dont see me coming sometimes, so Ive got a Stebel Air horn too.

When you're on a scooter its best to be seen so for me Im go go fluro.
