"Why dont they make it?" Dream Scooter

I like the idea of starting this thread suggested by 50's rock in the Dream Scooter thread.

"Not a bad call there ...... That would definitely be a great combination for a "why don't they make it!" dream bike!"

Re: "Why dont they make it?" Dream Scooter

My dream scooter would be a new 250cc Vespa, and I would love it if Vespa would consider making something like this. It would have:

    • the body of a PX200
    • the headlight of an ET4
    • 12" wheels
    • the seat of a GTV250
    • enough under-seat storage for an extra large full-face helmet
    • a glovebox and cup holder
    • at least a 15 litre fuel tank
    • a small flyscreen
    • manual gears (a manual scooter would be nice without sacrificing under-seat storage; I wouldn't drive an automatic car,so I shouldn't have to ride an automatic scooter). Vespa should always keep at least one new manual scooter in their product lineup, I'm sure there is enough demand from lovers of classic scooters that want the reliability of something new.
    • lots of chrome
    • and the colour range would include a choice of prugna, giallo lime and portofino green.

I originally posted this on the "Which is your dream scooter" thread, but it is more appropriate here. My apologies for a double post.

Dream scooter specs should be as follows--

    15 ltr fuel tank--a must

enough under seat storage for a helmet--definate must

    12" wheels--a must

looks to be the same as gts250

manual gearbox--absolute,essential must--would suggest 6 speed, possibly paddle shift arrangement on l/h handlebar rather than the old twist type{is too slow and awkward to use in this modern day}--i think with 6 speeds that would give a pretty good cruising speed and the quaser donk could still live the easy life that it currently enjoys.

    a.b.s brakes--would be very usefull

    I would like...

    • small-frame
    • fuel-injected
    • stable at high speeds
    • large storage
    • 80mpg (34km/L) fuel economy
    • gets up to 80mph (130km/hr) easily
    • automatic transmission with manual overwrite
    • LED tail lights and blinkers, single HID headlight
    • digital instrument cluster with analogue speedometer
    • hydraulic centre-stand
    • gyroscopic balancing when activated at slow speeds
    • GPS-linked tracking and broadcast system built-in (like Spot Messenger?)
    • Bone-conduction stereo system
    • All-round "sonar" collison-detection system, automatically fires missiles at cagers intend on cutting me off
    • Flux capacitor add-on ability

I wonder how a Vespa GTS with a 400cc MP3 engine would go? With maybe 14" wheels and a 15ltr tank under the floor.....oh and with an audiable blinker system.Wink

Hmm... might be a bit of a task for the vertically-challenged rider though, that Vespa GTS 400 with 14" wheels and a 15L tank... Stick out tongue

I think you,ve hit the nail right on the head, also like your idea on the auto with manual overide,i guess for the NZ market it would also with motorcycle approved jandals and a warmer to put fush&chups in?--sorry mate, just couldn,t resist a dig at a kiwiBig Smile, knowing that kiwis have a good sense of humourBig Smile.

Hmm,a 400mp3 donk, maybe not an impossible task,i wonder how much physical difference--eg bolt up setup there is,should be possible as both run 12" wheels, motor cost would be a factor although off the top of my head i reckon one would p/up a write off from a salvage auction at a reasonable cost.

youv,e got me thinking now,am going away to do some homework--WARNING this could be dangerousBig SmileBig Smile

a warmer to put fush&chups in

My Vespa ET4 already has a fish and chip warmer under the seat. The under-seat storage is great for keeping food warm, not so good for transporting frozen food like ice cream.

Maybe the dream scooter could have a separate refrigerated storage area.

    But they do make it!

When I had a PX, I wanted smooth curves more like an early Vespa, and I wanted flush indicators. Then the GT/GTS came out.

When I got my GTS250, I wanted a bit more take-off power, no carrier, no silly "running light" in the front, and a more comfortable saddle. Then they brought out the GTS300!

Now all I want is a non-sloping headlight.

    Mike

Ok, ok, I am simplifying a bit. If I had a GTS300 I would want a Malossi V4 cylinder head, Audicator, floor mat, Polini variator, Grimeca brakes, eco-leather grips, etc. etc.

Postscript: I forgot to mention that I don't like the 250's digital dash either, and they fixed that on the GTS300 too. But I do find the tacho useful for tuning..

Hmm,well your ET4 is a bit behind the times, the GTS has a full on oven under its seat,it will actually cook fish & chips{you just 1/2 fill the storage box with cooking oil, also very good for drying wet clothesBig Smile

I reckon the GTS has a slow cooker under the saddle. On that other Vespa forum there is a cooking recipe thread for the "pet carrier".
