    Honda CBR500, anyone?

... the above is a spy photo (courtesy of Asphalt and Rubber) of the new cheap(ish) 500cc Honda that will be revealed soon. Said to be parallel twin developing 45hp. The long neglected small-bike class is certainly heating up! There is also a new 375cc KTM Duke on the way...

What is the go with the low and ultra low seat height of all these new bikes? Its annoying. I love the new mini street fighter suzuki, but at 6 4, l dont want to be cramped on my first bike.

What you've shown is one of the new 1400cc-engined models!  These appear to use some existing inventory items such as the V7 crankcase, but there is much there beyond the largest engine capacity ever marketed by Moto guzzi- Oil and Air engine cooling, a longer wheelbase, a wider rear wheel, and a fuel tank that wraps around the engine tappet covers!

White. I think in white they look just a tiny bit like KTM.

Ducati 900 Cromo. Possibly the only one in Australia.

Thats some nice eye candy pizzalover.

When we were down on the Snowy Ride Honda was running 20 minute test rides down the mountain toward Jindabyne and back. We talked Gary into giving a Goldwing a try to see if Sue liked the pillion ride. Tristian took a CBR1000RR sports bike, Ian the new VFR1200X Crosstourer, Mitch grabbed a VT750S and I got my leg over a naked CB1100. Well Sue was grinning from ear to ear, Tristian didn't get out of 2nd gear, Ian was wasn't impressed even though he somehow got it to 170k/h, Mitch wasn't that impressed.

As far as the CB1100, it was a really nice ride. VERRRRY smooth, with good uphill torque over 4000rpm. I really liked the classic look of this air cooled naked bike, almost retro, reminded me a bit of the  CB750 Honda 4. Big headlight, compact frame, low seat, 18" wheels, really nicely balanced and extremely easy to ride. IMO it needed some drop down bars, a decent pipe, and probably some racetech suspension mods but beside that it was a bloody nice piece of kit. It was just asking to be turned into a cafe racer. It was my first decent ride on a litre+ bike and I really liked it but the licence wouldnt last a week as it just wanted to be ridden hard. It certainly isnt a sports bike but I got off it after 20 minutes with a mile wide grin and the after taste has stayed with me. This bike is a real charmer.

I like the look of that CB1100. The styling has not changed much since the 70's.
