Just a suggestion.....Have a look around for a Vespa GT200  if your on a budget...just as a guide you could pick up 2005 GT200 between $4000-$4500....try the Vespa wizard in Melbourne he has one for $4K I think and you wont be disapointed with the performance.

    Thanks Mike. Will do. Smile

Here is the one the Vespa Wizard might be able to help with as I see its not on his web site asking $4k with 10500km on the clock just to benchmark for your interest...also on the Vespaclubmelbourne site Tony has his GT200 for sale also,I think its still available.

    happy hunting,cheers Mike

Re: Need advice on upgrading scooter

I spent 2 days on this forum, before I bought my first scooter........I researched the posts, read reviews and tried to work out IF what I wanted to buy, was a good decision.  I knew that I wanted a Vespa, but would a  GTS 250 do the job? I asked myself IF it was worth the extra money to get the 300. And then.......should I even buy a Vespa, not something else!

What I am saying here is, sometimes it pays to spend a little extra, no matter what you want to buy.......even if the performance is more than you think you need. An extra $1000 on your loan will not add a real lot to the payments and it could mean the difference between ending up with a machine you really like........or something you just put up with, and hope it does the job. After 2 weeks riding, I am convinced I made the right decision to spend a bit more, it sure was worth it.........

    Cheers,

    Jack.

Yep but it's in Melbourne. I'm in Canberra. From the photo, it is worth it. Wonder if they ship...I'll give them a call.

So what did you end up getting, Jack?
I know what you mean. I was going to just spend less than $3K but since I have to get a loan, so I thought I might as well get a Vespa because it's ultimately what I wanted.

I did promise myself that I would get a Vespa as soon as I paid off my car loan, which I did last year. So I think it's time to get the Vespa. :)

There's a used GTS250ie in Canberra up for sale. Hopefully it's still available. $4800, clocked 40km though.

    MangaGal,

I ended up with the 300, it goes no faster than a 250 but......it does not rev as hard. You could say its less stressed than a 250 at the same road speed, I need to ride my scooter 700km home, in 2 weeks or so. Right now it's my transport around Brisbane..

Do not let the tyranny of distance put you off a deal Big Smile You are a plane ticket, or Greyhound bus ride from Vespa Wizard in Melbourne. You could buy and ride home to Canberra! Here is what you do.......call VW and tell them you are interested, get a commitment that they will hold it for a few days, until you can get to them and look at it. IF that works out OK, then get a bank cheque made out for a little less than the price, and get the rest in cash. This is incase it's not quite in the condition you are happy with, and you need to bargain a little, let's face it you are as good as a no trade in cash buyer. That has to be a slight advantage for you. Also, IF you can line up any other possible deals close by, you have a choice to pick from. Generally though, specialist dealers usually have good machines to sell, not just a bike dealer trying to off load something they are stuck with. A dedicated scooter outfit is your best bet, or a good private sale, only if you know how to do all the checks to make sure the seller is legit.

Just think, you have a weekend away, and you get to ride home from Melbourne, on one of the best highways in the country.......Big Smile

    Cheers,

    Jack.

Not at all. I bought my VS125 from a nice guy down in VIC. He shipped the scoot to me. So I wouldn't mind doing it all over again. Wink

Definitely agreed with you on this one! My local Vespa dealer is really nice. He's the one I always count on to get any info/tips on scooters. He's the best in town. That's why I wanna check out his showroom first. If I can get one from him, he probably would know the entire history of the Vespa because he's the only dude in town that services Vespa. Wink But I know what you mean, I still should shop around... thanks for your advice. Really appreciate it!

By the way, I want to get an idea how much I can borrow from banks first before I start inspecting scooters. I want to be prepared. :)

Looks like you have a good local Vespa dealer.......can't get much better than that Big Smile Just make sure any deal you want to do, is to your liking. Do not be afraid to let them know you are shopping!  You need to get a fair deal for yourself and they will get on going business from you, by way of servicing, parts and accessories, in the future. If you can build a good association with your dealer, it's a real bonus Wink

    Cheers,

    Jack.

I agree. Nico has one of the best scooter shops in the country and he sure knows heaps about scooters. He often has good second hand machines in there. Im sure he'd be able to kit you up. Tell him what you need and how much youve got and see what he can come up with.

Can't get away? I'm sure someone would ride the Vespa to Canberra for you in exchange for a ticket home.

Make sure all the paperwork's in place - I'm sure the dealer can post the rego papers for you to sign, and the rider can sign a contract to deliver it. It's a lot to trust someone with your new pride and joy though.

That's where contracts come in. Clause 21 - "On the day of your due arrival, the scooter shall be reported stolen and the police pointed in YOUR direction, thanks for delivering my scooter"
