TGB XRace 150 or Bullet 150 v Aprilia Scarabao 200 or Sym HD200

    Newbie question.

About to get a commuter for running around in Sydney.  Very, very little work on roads greather than 80km speed limit.  20-30min commute each day to work in heavy city traffic.

I can get either of the two TGB scooters above for $3,500-$4,000 and the Aprilia or Sym for around $5,500

    Important to me is:

    1. Lots of storage - I will get a rear box

    2. I am 6'2" and 85kg so want something to suit my size

Is the extra $1,500/$2,000 for the Aprilia or SYM worth the money?  Will I see a big enough differnece to justify it.

Another small consideration is I can get the TBG's locally and will have to travel a long way to get either of the other two.  Hppy to do so if they are a significantly superior product.

Lastly, the two TGB options are similar price and same capacity.  Whats the difference between them?

    Thanks heaps for the help

    Colonel

I'll chip in here as an HD200 owner.   It's brilliant.  I have a short commute to work, but it's all in traffic.  Its a skinny bike so good for filtering in stoppages.  Reliability is great too with the Sym.

The rear rack it solid so you can fit a nice big top box.  I've got a 39L givi box which stores my FF helmet (size XL), my jacket (which has elbow, shoulder, upper and lower back padding) and my gloves.   Underseat is a little small, but enough to fit a hand towel, wet weather pants and gloves.

Performance wise I'd say is a big difference.  I regularly pass a guy on a TGB Bullet 150 and leave him in my wake.  Way slower off the line and not sure if they would be all that great at 100kph for any great distance.  Remembering that once you have a scooter you WILL want to ride it everywhere. Not just to work.

The larger diameter wheels are great for comfort and road handling.

Pricewise, with the release of the HD2 (2nd Gen) you might find a HD200 (1st Gen) for cheaper brand new.

    Hope it helps,

    Cheers

Thanks heaps.  Apprecaite you taking the time to reply.  I am reading that you feel the extra money is worth it.

Is there any discernable differnece or benenfits between the HD2 and HD200?

Check out the Scooter Sales Review section!

Allan Drysdale speaks very highly of the new Sym HD2. I don't think much of anything bad has been said about its predecessor the HD200?

Noting, it's more of what's NOT said than what is said, when we are discussing bad.

It would appear the Sym ticks all the boxes, especially if you get a top box thrown in on the deal?

    just my two cents worth.

    Cheers Rev

P.s. Think larger diameter wheels = greater stability. A considerable advantage during high density urban commute!

to find out which scooter will suit you, you will need to test ride them.

I am lucky.  I found mine at a very reasonable cost second hand with less than 500km on the clock.  But I would have paid retail pricing after riding it.  Test ride is always going to be the way to test what will suit you.

From what I have read in reviews, specs wise they aren't any different.   The HD2 does add a glove box which would be a great addition.  Something you don't realise how handy it is until you don't have one.  Few little cosmetic tweaks too like twin head lights instead of the single large one.  Body work seems a little more modern too with squarer lines.  I like it a lot.

Think i would go for one of the 2 liquid cooled fuel injected scooters . of those 2 one seems to be discontinued in a lot of the overseas markets . So my winner would be the SYM HD200 Yes

Thanks so much to all for the great advice.  Before I jump in, is there any TGB 150 owners out there that can give me a heads up on their scooters.

Hello, as a Scabbie 200 owner of several years, I can endorse the height issues which no-one has touched on yet.

I am 193 cm and abt 90 kg and Scabbie is fine for me.

I recall from the old Scooter mag that the seat is abt the highest U can get in a scooter.

not ridden an HD , but they seem impressive from what we read.

Thanks to everyone who replied and offered advice.  It helped me make the right decision.

Congrats on the new scooter Colonel! It'll several you well. I was very impressed with the Sym brand when I looked into them. They were way better than my assumption of them.

     Enjoy. I know you will.
