    A $600000 Harley

A rare 1927 Harley Davison V 8 valve has been sold at auction in Melbhourne by Shannons for $600000

With bent rims and flat tyres plus an original sidecar  it looked as though it had just been picked up out of a barn

The report said it was An Australian buyer who outbid an American and that it would not be restored

.There were reportedly 50 or less of these bikes manufactured

... that's what A$600,000 buys you these days? I knew Aussie dollar wasn't doing so great, but this is ridiculous :)

Read about this somewhere prior to the auction. $600,000...ouch! Personally I think this current preference for keeping these finds in 'as is' condition,ie. rusted & beat-up etc. a tad strange, such is life I guess.

What you do ,is stick it in your front yard and plant daisies in the side car for all your neighbours to see

After all it is only a Harley Davison and just a step up from an old rusty wheelbarrow

I was looking at a new long low black one and admiring how it had been parked to maximise the distance between the other parked bikes. Pretty smart this guy, just enough space for a uni student to squeeze/scratch their way in between with their beat up 50 machine.:-)

They must be so proud of this macho belt-driven machine. My scooter on the other hand, is chain-driven...... ROFL

Some may see this as an investment, like cases of Grange Hermitage that are rarely drunk.

    Aprilia Sportcity 2006,
recently crashed badly, might replace or buy a car!

I've got an old pushbike in my shed, in condition quite similar to this Harley and it would probably go about as fast, too... So if anyone would like to invest the opening bid is set at low, low A$100,000.

Problem is we all have an old pushie in the shed, and there were a hell of a lot more than 50 of them made.
While I have some understanding of keeping the 'Patina', bikes like this should at least be brought up to running and rideable condition.
Otherwise it will inevitably become just another pile of iron oxide and rotted rubber.
History is easier to appreciate when it lives in front of you, way out of the era it came from.
Inspires the young to discover the past and let's the more mature, allright ! the old to reminisce.
