    Going North

Next weekend on April 30 I am heading north, up to Maclean to see mum & dad. Going via Putty and Gloucester to Taree on Sat, then up the Oxley and down Waterfall and Armidale/Grafton road (via Nymboida) on Sun. Will be the first really long trip on the Tmax, just had the 10k service today and Kimmy is running like a sewing machine.

Anyone who would like a good run in the country is welcome to ride along, I will be avoiding the freeway except for that bit from Taree to Port Mac.

Coming back the same way the following weekend.

I will post some photos, coz I can!

A great ride that, wish I could afford to come. Have you ever done the Gwydir Highway from Grafton to Glen Innes??  If not, it is a great ride and will only add 60ks to your return trip. and I know you will really enjoy it.  I will be looking forward to your write -up and photos.

    Re: Going North

I'm heading from Maclean/Grafton to Taree on Friday, then back to Syd on Saturday. The long way of course.

By way of set up, I have the large Yamaha top box, which conveniently comes off with a carry handle so I can pack it like a suitcase. Another bag fits nicely under the seat. No need for strap-ons! I also:

    - repurposed an old Samsung phone as a sat Nav, using a hard wired mounting kit from ultimate mobiles.co.uk. They are on eBay too. I loaded the phone with Here maps, which lets me download an entire map of Australia to use offline, and has an "avoid dirt roads" option that Google does not

    - a Puig touring windscreen which, with the extra flappy bit on top, suits my 182cm frame well.

    - Renthal bars for a slightly more relaxed position.

     I will make some photos.

I've arrived at Maclean, after two days of dodging some weather and some great roads. Day 1 was Sydney to Taree. It started raining at Hornsby, so I blasted through it on the freeway, got off at Wyong before the horrible concrete bit and finally got a dry track about Morriset.

Then through Kurri Kurri and Maitland, Dungog, Stroud to Gloucester. From there I continued on the Buckets Way through to Taree and a dodgy motel for the night, where that rain caught up. The Bucketts heading east from Gloucester is a particularly lovely ride.

The picture is at the servo at Stroud.

Here you can see the Renthal bars, mounting arm, and the power supply which is fused from the battery.

Riders view. Works quite well, and I couldn't have navigated those back roads through the hunter without it.
