    One for two-stroke lovers

    My own dislike of two-strokes is well documented in this forum, but I do try to keep an open mind :)

    This article makes their version of two stroke engine sound like the best thing since sliced bread.  What do you think?

    ... and it's an Australian company too...

    I hope he picks up a manufacturer that can take it to production.

    It'd be nice to see some new two stroke tech rejuvenate the platform.

    Scooterless for the moment.

    I remember Orbital, I thought they got bought by one of the big companies and promptly buried... or am I wrong?

    If I'm right then it's not all bad, at least they made some money for their trouble.

    I remember reading about one of the Italian scooter companies licensing the orbital engine, Aprilia was the company that comes to mind, in the smaller capacities.

    Aprilia did have or maybe still do have a direct injection 2 stroke Smile

    I would have to be one of the more obvious user sof two stroke engines, their simplicity suits basic transport like small scooters, outboard boat motors and small power tools.

    But its time to concede small fourstroke engines mass produced with fuel injection, liquid cooling and electronic engine management have won the technology war.

    New small scooters have excellent four stroke engines and improving transmissions. The only technical issue with new scooters is whether they have antilock brake systems. It won't be long till buying new with all the technical improvements, will kill the value of second hand scooters.

    I still have a big preference for the Japanese brand and uderstand how they push technical improvements at a price.

    2001 Yamaha Zuma, DR Evo 68 cylinder, Leo Vince TT derestricted, Delorto 17.5 (#98 jet), standard aircleaner, RMS fan, Race CDI, Standard oiler and premix @ 75:1 Shell SX2, Doppler SR3 variator, RMS clutch, RMS R rear shock absorber and Pirelli SL26 tyres.

    The Italian-based seller who is a private collector of 60 rare Vespas is calling this Vespa “the earliest example of the Piaggio masterpiece, as created by Corradino d’Ascanio.” Or in other words, the oldest Vespa in the world … allegedly. 

    There were 21 bids for the working scooter which was hand-crafted in 1946. It was estimated to sell for up to $A424,771(€300,000) but sold for $A256,252(€191,000).

    The 1946 Series 0 Vespa is powered by a 98cc two-stroke engine matched to a three-speed transmission and is said to be in working order.

    It is a great result if these rare examples of automotive history then become available for public viewing. And I struggle with A$10.3k for a new GTS 300.
