    Fuel Consumption

I'm interested to know what sort of fuel consumption figures people are getting...

When we went down for the ScooterHQ run a few weekends ago, I did exactly 200km between fills, and used 5.44 litres.  That's 2.72l/100km.  Sparkplug came out light tan at the end of the round trip (about 280km I think)

Sounds good until you realise how inaccurate the speedometer/odometer is...Crying  I reckon it was close to 170km REAL distance which would equate to 3.2l/100km.

Anyway, I would love to see what people are getting - it would be useful information for me to add to my "buy a scooter, get rid of your car" litany...

    Re: Fuel Consumption

Yeah its interesting this... My fuel consumption is roughly 29km a litre. (3.4litres per 100kms) BUT I realised today how potentially out of wack my speedo is. What was an 8.5km bike ride to work is now over 11km. That is a HUGE discrepancy. Now I have a properly calibrated computer on my mountain bike, but I will have to check this against a car trip too. It is also a slightly different route at times. But not nearly 3km difference! so potentially I am getting way below what I believe in fuel consumption. In my mind I seem already a little high on the fuel. So add a 20% difference if my speedo is out and all of a sudden my fuel consumption is quite high. (maybe up to 4.5 litres per 100kms.) I'm going to do some more investigating. My bike is a VS 125.

The VS has an accurate speedo if its out it would only be by a very small amount.

Hmm....yeah I have compared the odometer between the 4wd and scooter on the exact same trip and the odometer on the Vino is about 6 km out on a 34km around trip. That is a huge difference. It is currently doing about 38km per litre, though I do have a performance spark plug and weight rollers (wonder if that will cause greater fuel consumption).

I average around 400km on the scooter odometer per tank of around 10-10.5L, though my fuel usage varies dramatically depending on my riding, my trip and the weather.  I'm fairly sure my odometer is out somewhat, but I haven't taken it out to do a calibration run on it yet (II might get around to it one day).

At last check - now 3.95l/100km (using BDUs)

Useful fuel consumption calculator - a good one for convincing people of the worth of scooters for saving money:

It could well be that both speedos are not reading correctly, if I recall correctly what my dad told me (he's well up on the ADRs), the ADR's only require +/- 10% accuracy for vehicle speedometers.

That might explain why, even when I am travelling at 60km/h in a 60 zone, cars always seems to be slightly faster. I thought everyone was the same. Well you learn something everyday huh.

    Re: Fuel Consumption

Im going for 50/50 . I thought that was pretty accurate after what Id heard about scooter speedo's. Just figuresd out consumption to be 3.44 Ltrs / 100klm. Its funny how everyone caculates fuel consumption differently.
