Re: Scooter Grants required By Rudd

    it's a great concept....

but the governemnt wont make money form scooters being on the road.... they are interested in raising capital, not reducing congestion or emissions.

if we had more scooters on the road, there would be a reduction speeding fines. where would they find those millions of dollars?

pumping money into holden  nd local manufacturers keeps thousands of jobs, and aids in strengthening our economy... unemployment is going to rise, and importing overseas manufactured scooters isn't going to reduce unemployment as it rises. sure there may be a few more sales service centres...nothing comapred to a local manufacturer, who uses other local resources and has a large dealer network etc...

governments and councils make a fortune out of meterd inner city car parking, if we all had scooters there would be fees associated with parking them inner city.... bye bye free parking.

the only way to get scooters on the road or subsidised is to make it a lucrative "$$$" option for the government.

    • A shift in what is possible, is needed and ought to be encouraged.
    • Do you travell less than 20km a day?
    • do you often commut alone?
    • Do you drive needleesly to find a parking space?
    • Do you suffer stress whist being in Traffic?? The most stress, is in traffic greater ,than that of jumping out of a plan acording to studies done.
    • Would you like a new Vespa, ? perhaps a 300 GT ??

Well simply fill in this form and we will give you......, oh would it be different and nice, and well revoltionary all the saving's on those roads to the suburbs that are like un numbered slow moving, pollution emitting cess pools, that are getting much worse.

    I like youre thinking Rick.

Rudd could also subsidise some competition to design and manufacture an Australian scooter for Australian conditions. I wonder what a revolutionary scooter ithat would be?

Traded in the Daelim for a Suzuki DR650. Keeping the Vespa GTS250ie though.

Yes, incentives seems the way to go.  Was pleasantly surprised with our local Council here in Hobart.  Just prior to Christmas they changed the fee structure in the council Car Parks for motor cycles/scooters.  Car fees are shown in right hand column

    First hour      Free        Free

    Second hour Free          80c

    Third hour     50c         $2.30

It's a good start.  Now for a reduction of the MAIB component of registration and a change of attitude towards two wheel vehicles, by the chairman.

Its funny though, everyone expecting the australian government to give in to "scooter communties" pleas to give everyone a scooter.. If somone wanted to be on a scooter, they would get one... Just like in W.A a pool blanket must be supplied with every new pool, so should solar hot water to a house...

Much more likely to happen than the govt handing out transport.. they run the PTA into enough deficit already

When people learn how to express their will to their politicians and we all do it, then we will see a positive improvement in this country.

At the moment under our Constitution the parliament  and all its laws exist at the will of the people , if we are silly enough to allow a republic then we lose this power and become total slaves without rights.

    see www.saveoz.info

look at "Your will be done"  this booklet is free to download and is only a few important pages of info.

Mike, they are bringing in some more long term FREE spaces too, in a couple of locations in the city. It's been approved by the council, now we just have to wait for the work to be actually done.

Councils are SLOWLY waking up, however... ... in Brisbane we've had a few new parking locations "approved" and a few unapproved one's restricted, but there's still not  enough parking unless you're early and then some other two-wheeler is left searching for a spot. The problem is that our public transport sucks (and I can go on lengthy diatribes about this) and private cars aren't the best way to move people.

I worked it out one day as I went north along Beach Rd Melbourne in mornig peek hour I pass about 200 big cars idle waiting for the idiot in front to move.  Most cars are heavy being Holdens and Falcons or an incredible number of big luxury 4WDs all with a driver and no passenger.

    Idiots.

As for people denying the green house effect, its a bit late, information now in indicates we have already started irreversible change and even if we cut emissions now to small percentages, the world will see increases in temperature, rising sea levels and many poorer countries in dire need of relocation.  The crap is already flying into the fan and 50 years is not a long time in environmental terms.

Deny all you like the warming does not stop because you deny it exists.

I totally agree with your comment , even here in Perth , Western Australia ,there are lot of big ford, holden ss v8 and also 4wd drives iwth one passenger also , I always ride my 250cc scooter ,simply because it saves me time and money on fuel costs and the environment as well .

I also noticed that I am doing my speed limit say in a 70 km/phr zone , I always notice the car drivers and 4wd drivers always try to outrun me by speeding above the 70km/phr speed limit,a least 100 km/pr  , car drivers are idots ,without taking notice what they are doing harm to environmental impact , I believe sooner or later that mother nature will hit back with floods, firestorms, cyclones, because we do not take care of our planet that we live in .

I can tell you ,in the are of perth were I live , I hear the cars running near the main road at 24/7 ,and the noise of the cars and 4wd as well.

I hate to think what going happen in the near future of the changing weather and the environment as well .

I always try ride my scooter on purpose not to save money also ,to save the planet ,that we take for granted.

Republic or not, australians dont "technically" have rights, but thats a whole other thread Wink

I must agree with you about expressing your will, whether governments like it or not, they do end up doing what the people want... and if they dont... well thats what revolutions are for Stick out tongue

As for a scooter bonus, i have already received mine.. thanks Mr. Rudd... but i think the only way most people are going to jump on scooters (without government intervention) is when the fuel price really sky rockets without an alternative being available. People are always going to need a cage, hence why the horse drawn cart was invented, but as a second vehicle scooters are generally the way to go imo. I mean think of the impact on traffic congestion it would have if all those (solo) people in there cars/4wds would just jump on a scooter instead.... i could see fuel prices drop and the amount of money leaving the country drop aswell. The economics of riding scooters (if it was taken up on a massive scale) would have a greater impact on our local economy than one would intially invisage, increased sales on riding apparel, a shift in the import of tyres to cheaper smaller ones (and less of them), a drop in spending on roads ( we only really need bigger roads because there soo many cars ), etc... Plus people would have a crap load of extra disposable income.

When it come to jobs and job losses, thats just natural progression. How many blacksmiths do you see around today. Initially it may have a negative impact, but long term, it only means there is a shift from one industry to another. It is very hard for australia to compete on manufacturing, hence why the car industry in this country seems to keep getting handouts every decade or so, but its not unfeasable to set up  scooter manufacturing plant here.. just need it to be automated as much as possible, plus the outlay for a new plant cant be anywhere near as expensive as one for cars. As long as the demand for scooters is there, the money and investment will be too.

I think, with the right tactics and support, the government could be lobbied to make some changes, but it wont happen if all we do is talk about it on forums. Someone has to take control, do the figures, and rally the public. Make alot of noise and it might happen Wink
