Learner Insurance... Can't find a reasonable one!

    Hi everyone,

Am new to this website :)

I have got my learners licence and about to purchase a Aprilia Mojito 125cc ...well finding one but I need to get insurance and being under 25 and female (hope that isn't an issue)... I have been trying to get quotes for comprehensive learner insurance.. either they don't insure learners or it is over $1000. I didn't know it was so expensive to ride a scooter...

Does anyone recommend any insurance company?  I have so far found nrma and Qae both over $1000 to cover me... :(

     Thanks everyone!

    Hi Mimi

I think insurance for females is generally less so just as well I suppose.

I use Insure My Ride, and they have been pretty resonable for me but I'm ahhhh a little older (and I think because they are AAMI some keep away due to a report/article on scooter riders they released a little while ago). Plenty of insurers out there though probably just have to do the hard yards to find one that can offer you a good premium.

I think there is another bike/scoot specific insurer see www.ebikeinsurance.com.au

Hi Mimi - welcome to the forum.

Read this thread on insurance - I got a great deal from Swann for my under 25 daughter.

Need scooter parking? www.mcnetwork.com.au on the web or on your iPhone
MCNetwork - using Google maps to plot every parking spot, every dealer, every shop - linked to every product for your scooter.

Unfortunately i don,t think there is cheap insurance for your categorySad.

terrible thing to say but insurance companies do not like you very much, your under 25,got l plates, but on the bright side they will be happier cause your female{apparently have more common sense than us males of equvalent age}.

maybe consider a very cheap scooter for a few yrs and stick with 3rd party property insurance?

look for a company which gives a lower premium & skyhigh excess{user pay basis}&hope to goodness you never have to make a claim.

once you reach 25yrs old, with a good/clean driving record, yuo can get insurance with most companies at very good prices.

Red ones go faster, don,t ya know

try all the guys that specialise in two wheel insurance. If your trying people like aami etc then your going to get Nil "No Claim Bonus" discount. They dont like two wheeled clients and even though they will insure prices will be high.

A little more info on my scootersales website about types of insurance etc , we are obviously sponsored by My Scooter Insurance

Finally found one... Learner Rider Insurance

    Hi Again!!

so I have placed myself under my partner's  insurance policy (also a Learner but 30 yrs old) and I am a nominated rider also.  It was with Swann insurance $300 comprehensive... (We did this through a dealer)

But when we purchased one of the mojito's from the dealer, we rode it home and then a spring fell out from the scooter!!!!!!!! what the???

So bringing it back today to have it rectified and be given an explanation...So everyone, make sure you have the dealer vehicles inspected by someone else!!

Thanks for all your help and tips!  Really appreciate it! Smile

I look forward to hearing the explanation!  I wonder what spring fell off..  There aren't too many springs on scooters, other than on the stands.

    Hi Steve,

You'd probably know what I'm talking about or referring to because I don't speak scooter language.

The dealer said it was a "retention spring", a wire used to hold up another cable???

I've never heard it called that before - but then I'm always surprised about what different brands call different parts.  Many of them I think is because of translation software!

But if its just a cable holder that has fallen off, it shouldn't be a big drama.  Its likely something that wasn't tightened properly in the factory, and when you pre-deliver you can't go over absolutely everything. Things occassionally slip through (hence the warranty).  Did the scooter have a few km's on the clock when you picked it up?   Some dealers don't seem to think that they shouldn't test-ride the vehicle before they sell them, because customers expect close to 0km on the clock.  But the value of doing a final test ride shouldn't be underestimated!
