    32,000k Club

I was reading on a Modern Vespa thread where they had a 20,000miles (32,000ks) club. They detailed what brand, year and model scooter they'd done it on and what issues they'd had along the way. It was a very interesting read. So is there anyone on scooter community whose a member? Im getting close at 28,000ks and I know Bradr and Lucy are over the line. So is anyone else a member? Report in. Maybe well have to make a patch or something.

Traded in the Daelim for a Suzuki DR650. Keeping the Vespa GTS250ie though.

What can I say.  Aprilia parts service.  I can't even check because we've disconnected the battery whilst we wait, and wait, and wait...

Yep, I am over 32,000km. Would be at 40km by now if not for the dimwit who drove into the side of me.

Hi Adam. So it is an Aprilia Scarabeo 500. What year did you get it? Beside the prang how well did the Beo go in that 32,000ks? How was it on tyres, belts, rollers etc? And were you happy with your choice of machine?

Maybe a separate section for this , it is a milestone for sure. Cant say Ive done 32,000 k on the one scooter its a huge number. Combined for sure but on the one scooter that's a huge ask.

I agree Allen. A seperate section would be good so the thread doesnt sink. 32,000ks is a milestone, but more important is what you call "a sense of knowing the scooter in depth". Thats why its a great time for a review. I also like the idea of getting a log of the scooters that are the real marathon runners. I think that it would be helpful for people who are purchasing new scooters to know which ones last.

    Re: 32,000k Club

    Hey Pete,

I have had it for less than 2 (maybe 22 months) years, and do about 25k km per annum (minus the extended period in the shop). Partly because Bunny Bash (BV 250), my other friend (GTS 250ie) and I do regular road trips and when the scoot is running I very very rarely drive.

The Beo was faultless. I have not had a single thing go wrong with it. Just had all it's regular services, and nothing else.

The Beo comes with Michelin gold standard tyres, and my first rear lasted ages. I changed it after maybe 20,000km. The next rear was a sportier tyre, the pilot city maybe? (cant check at the moment) and lasted miserably. Was really showing it's age after 6k km. But def. seemed grippier. Overall, probably not a great trade off though.

I have had the J Costa on from v early. The bullets (rollers) in it seem to last well. The first set I had were replaced very early on at a service because of flat spottting. When I have it service now I have them weighed. It seems the flat spotting is normal wearing in. Using a loss of weight as a guide they seem to last v well.

Fuel economy is generally under 4L/100km, best I have seen is 3.3, and worst about 4.3. Average maybe 3.9.

I have the following accessories: Big aprilia top box, small and large screens, J Costa variator, Kevlar belt, Dr Pulley clutch, Malossi Cam, Pod filter, and the vital sx appeal coffee cup holder.

I particularly like the power, the big wheel stability, the under seat storage (fits my full face XL shoei), the styling, the big screen in winter, my wife is comfie on the back, and the "surprise it's a 500" factor. Also, my wife cannot beat me in a race when she is driving her mini cooper s.

I dont like the too firm ride (it seems to ride better 2 up), and the auxillary power in the glove box is useless (space is too small to insert anything).

Overall, I have never seen a scooter I would rather buy although I have ridden others that I like alot.

I vote for patches!! But might have to do 30k km, 40k km, and 50k km. More and more exclusive as the km rack up. I have been looking for some coold patches for my jacket

    Re: 32,000k Club

I certainly don't qualify with my last couple of scoots, but I had my GS150 for 12 years and covered 120,000miles with it. Then I had a Rally180 (later converted to a Rally200) for 11 years, and it did 100,000 miles.

Didn't cover as much ground with my P or my PX, and even less with the GT200 and GTS250 (so far).

I feel that any scoot can go forever as long as you can get spares. The GS150 was prone to seizing and to breaking rings - I always carried spare rings, and had changed them at the side of the road a couple of times. The Rally was beautiful, much more trelable. But I think the most reliable scooter around is the good old PX.

    Aprilia's ROCK!!

My first Sportscity 200 had 29,000 on the clock when I traded her in ... beautiful bike - not a thing wrong with her.

The current Sportscity 250 has 23,000ks and runs like a dream. Neither bike has needed anything more than a regular service. (touch wood).

I bought a wonderful little 1988 Honda Elite 50cc with 102,000kms on the clock. Top end has been rebuilt a few times but still runs like a charm. The scooter now resides in the country where is loads of fresh air.

    Re: 32,000k Club

I,ve got 32,500kms on my gts250 vespa and have owned it since 7,500kms,it went very well from day one but it really came to life from about 10,000kms onwards. It has always returned very good fuel economy, uses no oil at all, does not have a single rattle/squeak anywhere,is just about through the 2nd front tyre, has had 4 rear tyres of which i have had sava, michelin, metzler, pirrelli and the pirrelli gts24 tyre is by far the best and also the cheapest--am just about to fit a gts23 to the front.I have put one belt/roller set into it,one spark plug,oils/filter changes etc{i change engine oil/oil filter every 5000kms--my preference and considered cheap insurance},i added some nulon to the final drive oil to pressumabley make it last foreverSmile,i still get as much enjoyment out of it now as i did then,i ride it any and everywhere and have done a few reasonably long {250 to 300km runs 2 up with adult weight} and it does not protest at all.

In summing up{thank goodness i hear you asy} if i lost this one tommorow, the only thing that would prevent me buying another identical one is if i had enough money to go the extra and buy a 300 vespa.

I noticed today that PX Pete has 38,000ks on his red Vespa PX200. I know that he is constantly putting in new bits and pieces like polini pistons and rings etc. He is not adverse to pulling down the engine over the week and turning up the next weekend with a totally new set up. He rides this PX hard and is always up amongst it with much bigger machines. I have travelled with him all over the state.
