Re: FCAI 2011 end of year sales results

Its interesting that the Kawasaki W800 outsold the Triumph Bonneville

Daelim NS 125: Mighty 1st scoot from Korea that punched way above its weight. Sold
Vespa GTS 250: Modern Retro brilliance. I'll ride it til it dies.Traded in on a maxi.
Suzuki DR650: "That Thing" Excellent Single 650 thumper chook chaser that was too tall. Sold

Its interesting that the Kawasaki W800 outsold the Triumph Bonneville

Yep but i don't think they pinched many sales from Triumph Bonneville down 21 sales & Thruxton down 29 sales compared with 2010

CBR250r did well to say wasn't on sale for the full year & to think most thought LAMS would kill the 250 market Smile

Yes but notice they count Thruxton as a separate model. If you add it to Bonnevilles, Triumph  is  comfortably ahead. And  what of the Scrambler, did they count it as a separate model too, I wonder?

If you combined the Bonneville and the Thruxton, Triumph would be ahead of the Honda CB400.

And why not? Triumph sells well, while CB400 is something of a niche model. We are one of the very few places outside of Japan who get it at all, and that is probably thanks to the peculiarity of our LAMS. If it wasn't for that, being only 400, CB400 would have no chance in hell of selling at the price point they need to sell it at.

As for Thruxton, it is basically Bonneville made less comfortable by clip-ons. I always think of it as just another flavour of Bonneville... It would make more sense to separate Scrambler, at least Scrambler's engine is significantly tweaked with different crankcase and what-not.

Interesting that Chinese brands listed in this table, namely Benelli, CF Moto, Megelli, QJ and Sachs all recorded drops in sales. I wonder if this could be the result of more established players like Honda getting back into the budget end of the market? Speaking of Honda, they had rather modest growth in scooter sales. Frankly, I expected PCX to have more impact... They must be doing well with CBR250R though, lately I see them everywhere!

    I'll say... 5x their CBR125R!

It shall be interesting to see what happens when they bring out the CB125-E.

The old CB125 engine apparently had 12bhp, which is only 1bhp off the liquid cooled FI'd CBR125R.

I'm tempted just to buy one to muck around on. :D.

That's the first time I've scanned the whole table. Surprised the street bikes only get about 400-500 units a year. Now I understand why bikes cost so much here!

    Exs: CB250, GS500, DL650, Espresso 150, Triumph Street Triple, ZZR250, CB900F Hornet
    Current: CBR125R
