    YOUR scooter design

f you had a clean sheet on which to design a motor scooter from scratch, what criteria would you give to the design ?

Would it be say  Looks? or Servicibility or Economy or Performance or Stowage etc .

Just maybe there is a better way, but then again, many love to stick to retro designs of the past.

OR ..maybe the design of scooters has been exhausted, and there is nothing more to be done except for say, technical updates ?

Maybe, just maybe, you could design a really low cost / simple scooter for the masses as Tata has done with a cheap car in India - who knows?

Many have tried - many have failed, but does that mean that the idea of trying something new has gone too?

    You have a go !

    What do you think .....

Easy -- Not toohigh seating position

Plenty of room to stretch legs

Low height for throwing leg over

Make sure talights can be easily seen from behind

    Larger turn indicators

    Side stand

    Accessable terminals to recharge battery

Instrument panel that can easily be read even when the sun is shining on it

Brighter paint options plus side reflector panels for safety

    Attachment points for Panniers

    Thats for starters

Yep,mostly what Rod says but I prefer a high seat. Also a flat floor for carrying stuff, under seat helmet hooks to free up onboard storage, a genuine 200cc engine to comfortably do highway speeds but scooter is still small, agile enough to chuch around town.

Alas - we are stuck with the unimaginative, whose creations are as grey and black as the bikes they produce.

Yep pyrah I read about a e, Motorcycle that can now go 180 miles between charging.

And as for what I'd like to see changed on Scooters is just makeing them easier to service I'd like to see more of those quarter turn fasteners used.

I have them on one of the other Bikes and they make things so much quicker and nothing has ever come loose so they seem to work ok.

It doesnt matter what we the riders want or desire --some manufacturer who knows it all is going to market what he thinks we should be riding whether its good or bad  --so lets all stop dreaming because we are stuck with it

    Re: YOUR scooter design

I made those remarks in my previous post because of ---

I ride an 09 model 400 Burgman with ABS which I find suits me to a degree

I sat down and wrote to Suzuki and nominated a number of improvements I seriously thought would improve their product

The list wasnt enormous nor did I think it would have increased their costing on production by much

So I sent it off to the person i was told to send it to and i never even received a reply

Not a word --So that is why I say they have their own preconcieved ideas on what we are riding and the customers comments dont mean twiddley dee

Rod don't be so sensitive. You need to smile more it was just a joke most of us know we can't make them change the way they make scooters. But it's nice to dream isn't it. ?

I also think the things that Rod said we're all good but I'd like to know what you think about the quarter turn screws or joiners that they use on bikes like the VFR,  don't you think they would make pulling down a scooter much faster and easy.

And like I said none have failed on the VFR and it's a 95 model.
