    guy at my work crashed!

was walking out the door this morning to be greeted by a guy from work that looked a bit worse for wear! Sleeve of his shirt rolled up, with big big big graze, scabby/*** skin on his arm, his hands, knuckles.

He picked up his new motorbike last week, a 1200cc had it for 5 days, $17,000 worth.  Crashed it, write off.  He came off doing 50k's/h wearing a T-Shirt and Jeans.  I didn't get to see his shoulder and the left side of his back, but from his graphic description it sounds like he doesn't have a shoulder any more as the road ground the bone away as well as the skin!!! ewwwwwwwwwwwwww

So that was sad for him, but good for me to see and hear as just really re-inforces that you MUST wear all your protective gear - it's not worth the risk really!  I told him that i hadn't even started riding out there yet!!

I think being exposed to that sort of stuff gives you a good wake up call really!

He will be ok, and will get back on again when he gets a new bike etc.

Just to add to that, today i saw 2 guys on sports bikes wearing thongs!  WTF!  Doesn't take much for a thong to slip off, and if it does it when you are putting your foot down ouch!  I have had a rock flick up, and hit me on the ankle a few times, and luckily I was wearing enclosed shoes.

Hey Lou..... yes! That answers my questions! I always new that ideally you should wear as much protective clothing as possible....it just would feel very strange to go to the beach dressed in full riding gear!! I might make my transport to the beach for my cager!! At least i can crank up the aircon on the way home to stay cool after swimming!

Hope your well and still loving the MIO - hope to see you at one of the Northern Beaches rides soon!!!

OMG how scary! Did it freak you out a bit? I guess it's a good wake-up for us newbies, and also a good reminder for the more experienced riders who may have got a bit complacent!

Just spoke to the owner, she sent me a pic of the bike from the Aprilia website (will email it to you!) and I should be getting pics of the actual bike tomorrow. With any luck I will be getting finance sorted out tomorrow and the bike on the weekend! Big Smile

Bit tricky when you work for an organisation with only two other employees, both of whom know all the details of me picking up my bike on the weekend!!! Might look a bit suss...

i was wearing my protective gear when i came off, just a couple of grazed knees and some minor bruising.

the protective gear took the brunt of the crash. so money well spent.

I'd like to see that too!WinkBig Smile

As for the guy... Ouch! On the way to work I ride through an industrial area and I see many bike riders just wearing shorts, t-shirt and work boots. I think if I was their boss I would suggest for them to wear at least some protective gear. If any of them come off the boss will lose his worker.

    Ride safely everyone.
