• Re: HID Conversion

I am runing LED spots on my Tiger and I do a lot of outback night riding. I am currently using Clearwater Krista's, but am about to upgrade to the Erica because I want spots on the DR650, so going to do a transplant. There are a lot of low power LED options, some quite cheap. They use a lot less power than halogen and HID, but the light is ...

  • Re: How many KM's off a set of Tyres

Are they flay in the centre, ie squared off due? This affects handling. Also, tyres often wear with a bias toward the camber of the road. Not sure abut your particulare tyre, but the softer compound tyres might only last about 4000-6000kms depending on how you ride, where as some of the hard or dual compound tyres will last as long as 15000km. My ...

  • Re: How often has your Scooter been moved? pissed off that mine was moved in a parking building

I am about to get shouted down here, but, I have had to move a couple of little 50cc scoots in the CBD on the rare occasion. I always park tight up agains the wall or posts to maximise space for others, but sometimes the little 50 riders jam their little machine in the smallest of gaps so close that you cant stand your motorcycle up. When I ride ...

  • Re: What GPS and where to buy

I use a Garmin Montana. Bought if for the DR650 and bush bashing, but got rugged  mounts on all the bikes now. Its got the best screen out of any GPS I have used so far, and it can be seen in full sunlight.

  • Re: Iron Butt Scooter insanity
The FarRiders forum actually had a lot of good general advice for long-distance riding. Unfortunately they've locked it up as complete members-only access now. :/  I've mentioned it before here, but I managed ~780kms on a Postie once.. Unfortunately electrical issues nixed the attempt. And I thought the ...

  • Re: Wet butt.
Most overtrousers are fine when worn standing up and the rain is running down and off straight away. Sitting and having a 60k breeze pushing the water back into the seams soon finds the weaknesses.  After 45 years riding, I have pretty much given up on motorcycle ' specific' gear and find the farming ...

  • Re: Iron Butt Scooter insanity
Eep. That's a long way. I've been considering doing 1,000K in a day, but there's no way I could do a thousand miles.
I think the last 1600k I left Brisbane at 11am and arrived in Malacoota (Victoria) at about 7am, so with daylight savings that is about 18 hours (daylight savings included). I ...

  • Re: Driving Interstate on a 125cc

I reckon do it too. Do yourself a favour, stay of highways cause they are boring as batshit. Give yourself a little extra time and get off the beaten track, so much more to see. Be warned, once you do this, you will be hooked. Its such a great way to travel.   I would probably go the Rev's route too, but I am a little biased toward the ...
