• Re: Fun, Fun, Fun!

Thanks Pyrah - I have had the Aprilia 200ie seat modified at the front, but it is not always as easy an option as it seems. Too great a change can drastically vary the seat height. The Kymco 500 had to go because of too-wide front section. The seat could not be altered because of the plastic mould beneath. The Kymco 300 has the ...
• Re: Fun, Fun, Fun!

Thanks for your comment about the Firenze Allen. Actually I have decided to pursue the Piaggio X7 evo 300 ie this coming week. Why? because it seems to be the route that is the best compromise between longivity, ease of use, and price (the original idea put forward). Scooters such as the Firenze and the X7 300 can possibly solve some of the ...

PS Cold Cola - But how about those lovely grubby retro spoke wheels that go rusty?, the nice oily chain?, the exciting colour range of black, black, and more black? - and especially the bang up-to-date wizzo 2011 drum brake at the rear ? etc If I want retro I just look in the mirror - and it doesn't cost me ...
• Re: Fun, Fun, Fun!

I appreciate the suggestion 'Cold Cola' but take a look at that back seat! How about a hundred k's sitting on that! Cheers.
• Re: Fun, Fun, Fun!

Thanks for the suggestion about the Sym HD200 but it was taken out of the running when I bought the Aprilia 200ie in 2010. I have thought about returning to a Firenze 300ie as I owned the 250cc version when they first came out. There were quite a few small problems with it at the time but I must admit the dealer's attitude was very good ...
• Re: Fun, Fun, Fun!

Thanks ferrix - the Suzuki GS500 is a good bike but the high centre of gravity of most m/cycles make life difficult for an old fella like me. I did break into my cycle of scooter purcases with a Kawasaki 500 twin but it was too everything - too dirty, too smelly etc and was more of an athletic exercise than sedate pleasure. Which brings us to the ...
• Re: Fun, Fun, Fun!

I take you point about buying a maxi-scooter - the problem is that I have owned three in the last 8years and 5 other smaller bikes and they all have the same problem - Nigly issues that, if I could not fix most of them myself would have cost a fortune in the dealer's hands. I admit that I have not considered a Gilera Nexus so ...
• Re: Fun, Fun, Fun!

But are they reliable? Maybe something akin to a ride on mower with two of the wheels chopped off. Thanks for the suggestion about the Symba but my Aprillia 200i struggles to carry two in the warm weather as it is so I require a little more oomph! Actually - that gives me an idea - maybe I should sit in the rear position, and let her drive! ...
• Fun, Fun, Fun!

How about somebody out coming up with a scooter that is A. Utterly reliable with a reasonable life span (like my Hyundai car) B. Minimal maintenance (like my Hyundai car) C. Cheap, cheap to run (don't talk to me about low fuel consumption) D. Easily accessable, low priced spare parts E. A bike that is simple, simple, simple (remember ...
• Sym Firenze 300i maintenance

Hi - Can anyone tell me the oil change intervals on the Firenze 300i ? Also : Any maintenance changes from the 250 model? ie does it now carry an oil filter or oil cooler? Have they sorted out the fuel float in the new model? Has the steering geometry been revised? Has an extra 18cc made any difference to performance?Any helpful information ...
